Agricultural business
Tenuta La Spiga, along with its project “Cuor di noce“, began in the early 1900s in an as yet unspoiled landscape just a few km from the enchanting lagoon and well known seaside resort of Caorle.
The land reclamation which occurred created 3,650 hectares for agriculture where more than 800 sharecroppers worked with passion and bred: guinea fowl, turkeys, dairy cows; vines, apples, pears, tobacco, sweet-corn etc
This wonderful corner of paradise is run by the venetian family Gaggia who with intuition and entrepreneurial spirit has turned it into a model for the agricultural sector. Today the Tenuta La Spiga is a multi-faceted company where not only walnuts, cereals, corn, wheat and soya are grown, but also prosecco is produced, a wine that is a worldwide enological symbol of Veneto.
A corner of paradise
This agricultural business is in perfect harmony with the surrounding area where the philosophy, practiced for years, is based on respect, the protection of nature and safeguarding native flora and fauna.
The heart of the estate is a manor house that, despite the passage of time, has managed to keep its natural rural charm intact.
The Veneto region has been investing in walnut farming for many years and can be defined as the national capital of walnuts with its 295 hectares of land and a harvest of 1,165 tons per year. 40% of these 295 regional hectares belong to Tenuta La Spiga, a total of 120 hectares, making it the biggest private company producing walnuts in Italy.

As well as the specific mechanization, professionalism of the staff, important investments in agronomy and technology and continuous training, the La Spiga Estate has recently placed 40 cameras on the trees and ground probes that return data in order to understand the water needs of the plants.
The rows of walnuts are pruned during the winter and are equipped with an under-canopy irrigation system. The ground, irrigated by a sprinkler system, favours harvesting and guarantees the characteristics of the product even in case of rain. Particular attention is paid to soil fertilization, disease control and soil PH.
